2010 Jersey Export order to China:

The final yarding of the 2250 Australian Jersey heifers at the 8000 acre quarantine centre "Broadland Farms", Lucindale South Australia was a truly impressive sight. "The shipment is the largest single order of Australian Jerseys exported ever", Scott Jewell Elders Livestock Export Coordinator proudly commented at a recent Jersey Australia meeting. "We are really proud of all effort John Rundle, Amy Abrahams and Jacqui Payne have poured into this project", Scott added.

Doing my best to stay out of the way as Jersey's streamed in all directions it was amazing watching Andre Serone AQIS Veterinary Inspector, Peter Austin Timboon Vet Group work with the Chinese appointed Vets as they visually inspected all animals prior to their final injections. The team spent 6 hours processing the shipment with only six animals removed from the mob due to ringworm and small warts before grabbing a few hours sleep before getting up at 1.00am Tuesday morning to load trucks heading for the Portland wharf.

The good news is that while this first shipment is currently riding waves to China, a second shipment of a similar size is being planned for March 2011. For those of you who sold your heifers as part of this shipment I can report the animals were in wonderful condition, well fed and surrounded by lush Spring feed.
