The Jersey Australia Board has imported a cold cast Bronze Sculpture by artist Lee Mahovlic of the ideal model Jersey cow. The sculpture weighs 2.7kg, stands 27cm high at the withers and is 34.3cm from muzzle to tail.
It can be purchased from Jersey Island at a cost of $1000AUS (including import & delivery) or you can purchase raffle tickets from Jersey House at $20 each for your chance to win the heirloom. The raffle will be Drawn 30th May, 2012 as part of the Jersey Australia AGM conference in Inverloch, Victoria.
Jersey Showcase Sale 2012
The Jersey breed broke records at IDW 2012 with the Jersey Showcase Sale achieving an average of $5,032 - A New Record!
Next best 2006 av $4,780 for a multi vendor sale while the actual Jersey breed record was $4,951 back in 1983. Jersey Showcase 2011 saw an average of $3,770, which shows that the 2012 result is up by $1,262 or 33% with buyers from all States.Auctioneer Brian Leslie commented just prior to reading out Showcase sale averages to a packed crowd "The Jersey Breed is on a roll!
How right he was as the following day saw the Jersey breed out number all other breeds at the Tatura pavillion, better still was the fact that Jersey's won the Interbreed competition for the first time in the events history. The Jersey Australia Board seeks expressions of interest in a proposed Trade Mission to the USA and Canada. At this early stage the tour would be between 20th June 2012 till July 3rd 2012 and will consist of herd visits in California, Oregon, Wisconscin while attending three days of the AJCA Annual Meeting in New Hampshire before the final three days in Canada.

Jersey Australia and Pfizer Australia team up again in 2012 to offer Trainees and Tertiary Students the ability to apply for one of two Youth Scholarship Awards.
Dairy Trainees/Apprentices can apply for $500, while Tertiary Students can apply for $1000. To be eligible applicants need to be aged between 16 - 25yrs old.

The new service is funded by Central Sires Cooperative whose generosity sees the creation of an information portal where members can logon look up animal pedigrees, download herd listings, acquire progeny reports on cows & bulls or simply look up other Jersey Australia member contact details. Why Jerseys?
Jersey Australia recently published the Why Jerseys brochure and acknowledges the generous funding provided by Central Sires Cooperative to make this front line breed promotion tool available to exporters, cattle agents, cattle clubs and members. Why Jerseys?...its simple really!
Over the next six issues of the Jersey Journal we will focus on some of this countries great cow families. The articles will be sent into the office by you, the person who knows best what cows have had the biggest impact in your herd and of course adding to the broader Australian Jersey gene pool. Articles that must be between 250 - 750 words maximum can be sent along with at least 1 -3 photos to Jersey House PO Box 292 Ascot Vale 3032.
