2009/10 NEJBC AGM

"Active Clubs..Active Members"

Great to be invited to the NEJBC 2009/10 AGM which was hosted by the newly elected President of the club David Dinning, Greta Victoria...

Club members discussed amongst the other traditional AGM matters ideas to reinvigorate their group and I was interested to note that a regional Field Officer was appointed to encourage new members in the region. Rob Reid (Rolma Jerseys) offered to fill the role on behalf of the club and anyone whose met Rob would have to agree he will be a real assest given his passion for the Jersey Cow.

The club sees the running of their On Farm Challenge as a pivotal way of keeping the group active and of course a terrific way to introduce new members to the joy of breeding Jerseys. I like to think this is the best introduction to the world of Jersey Australia one that leaves a lasting impression and has produced some of the organisations most passionate breeders.

Members took time to watch the 2009 Great Southern Challenge DVD produced by Stu Mackie which held the group spellbound as the Club finalists couldn't make the actual presentation day in December. The DVD will be made available to all clubs that participated in the Great Southern Challenge and I can only hope it is enjoyed as much as it was yesterday.

David Dinning took those keen enough to brave the 40C temperature up the back paddock to take a look through his 260 Jersey herd. A strong supporter of Progeny Test David has a terrific herd which he culls heavily for type as heifers enter the herd. Needless to say we all found more than one cow that we'd like to take home and I have to say I couldn't help but annoy David just a little bit about getting his great herd registered!

Many thanks to the NEJBC for your hospitality and I for one really admire the fact that the group has members that travel over 3 hours each way just to attend meetings - now that is committment!
